Encouraging community activities with The Hinge Centre in East Riding.

The Hinge Centre located within the Havenfield Estate in Bridlington, East Riding are celebrating receiving a grant of £25,430 from People’s Health Trust, using money raised by Health Lottery in Yorkshire & Humber.

The two-year project aims to deliver a range of activities addressing the needs of residents. A group of ten local individuals who meet weekly at the Hinge Centre will form a management group to plan and organise events and regular activities.

These will include cooking, arts and crafts and the development of a food bank. Eventually, the management group will grow to around 20 people and the activities will change regularly based on the local need. The project aims to encourage more people on the estate to get involved with community activities, get to know their neighbours and make new friends.

Chris Lunn, The Health Lottery in Yorkshire & Humber spokesperson, said: “The funds raised through The Health Lottery Yorkshire & Humber are changing and improving lives. It was clear that supporting The Hinge Centre would have a great benefit to the community. To date, over £100 million has been raised through The Health Lottery for good causes across Great Britain, of which over £8.7 million has been raised for Yorkshire & Humber. We hope to make even more for good causes when Health Lottery Yorkshire & Humber opens in April 2019”.

Health Lottery Yorkshire & Humber is benefitting from Health Lottery tickets sold for all draws held between 1 April and 30 April 2019. You can purchase Health Lottery tickets in advance for these draws online at www.healthlottery.co.uk, or from more than 32,000 local retailers nationwide including The Post Office, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, ASDA, Morrisons and WH Smith.
